WORKING FROM HOME? DESIGN YOUR QUARANTINE

If working from home is new for you, at first it’s fucking awesome and soon you will realize it is much harder than you had anticipated.

Let’s be honest you probably wont miss that annoying co-worker that parks his ass at your desk and talks your head off while you clearly send signals you are too busy to listen to his/her BS or the co-worker that loves to crack dirty jokes .... but soon you will find that your entire house is a distraction including your neighbors.  My one neighbor is currently renovating his home and it feels our walls are about to crumble!  Then you add cats, dogs, kids, spouses... fridge, you will soon realize those annoying co-workers as much as they distracted you, they didn’t need your full attention like your new office mates.

Here are 5 tips to help you transition working from home:

  1. Design your day to day routine. Such as what time you get up, working hours you set for yourself in AM and PM, and when/how you will workout to stay fit. It helps to know when you are most productive.

  2. Dedicate a space in your home to work from. I actually dedicated two spaces based on time of day and what project I am working on to help me stay focused.

  3. Shut down social media during those set work hours or your whole production will be zero.

  4. Keep fixed meal hours to avoid over eating when you are bored, stressed, or emotional.

  5. Stay focused on big projects and tasks by creating daily, monthly, and 6 months out agendas for yourself.

For me personally, what has helped me the most in the past 6 years working from home, has been the power of writing my goals down so that I can can easily cross them out as I accomplish them either daily, weekly, or monthly.

Remember that in our current worldwide coronavirus pandemic we are practicing physical distancing NOT social distancing. Now more than ever before, stay connected with your team, staff, with all the technology we have going on.  Communicate more often and help each other stay focused and accountable. Share each other’s work goals via video meetings and check on each other on how they are feeling.

Take your power back by designing and creating your ideal quarantine.
