IM 70.3 PUERTO RICO, WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE MADE
Racing IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico, reminded me how much I love racing this distance.
It’s by far my favorite distance and I missed it!! It’s been 17 months since my last 70.3 which was at IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland.
Kicking off 2025 race season in Puerto Rico felt extra special! I am now racing in my new age (AG) 50-54 and the last time I raced Puerto Rico 70.3 I was in my early 40s. Going into this early hot and humid spring race, I had very specific goals in mind:

My First Triathlon - EVER
I remember my first triathlon, like if it was yesterday! I was in my early 20s and scared shitless.
I had never swum in open water before and I had just taught myself how to freestyle by watching YouTube videos a few weeks prior to race day. To make matters worse, I had never run more than a 5k and I was about to race in an Olympic distance triathlon.

NO RISK NO FUCKING REWARD
As a woman, turning 50, that’s a big fucking deal!
My goal as I age, is not about getting faster. I know slowing down as you age is inevitable. My goal is instead to get stronger, train smartly, and maintaining a high level of performance into my 50s, 60s and beyond!
Traveling to Mexico was my personal gift to my body, to thank it for caring my soul for past 50 years allowing me to experience life to the fullest.

CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL
This past Saturday, I toed the start line of IRONMAN Maryland, knowing I did not have the proper run fitness to race a full distance IRONMAN competitively. What if my PF flared up on race day? Was I asking too much from my body? Was my goal to qualify for Kona too bold, too big?

I FUCKING DNF’d
Huge to witness and race in the first all women only IRONMAN World Championship Kona. We made history.
For me, this was my first Kona and first time ever in Hawaii. A dream come true and one in which I’ve had to work so hard to get here. The island is a beauty and a beast and I cannot wait to qualify for Kona again in order to experience the whole race.
I say, whole race because unfortunately, I came to Kona injured. Unable to run or walk the marathon.

ONLY ONE PLAN. PLAN A.
Now that IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship is behind me, I am re-starting my physical therapy with 5 weeks until IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. I CAME. I SWAM. I CONQUERED.
did it mother fuckers! I swam in my first marathon swim… and I loved it!!
For those wondering what the fuck is a marathon swim. It’s a 10k (6.2 miles) swim or longer done in open waters without a wetsuit or any other external aids such as flippers.

KONA BOUND BITCHES
Beyond proud of qualifying for Kona, and this race taught me so much more than I could ever imagine.
What I experienced in T2 was one of my lowest moments in my triathlon journey! I could not handle the pressure. Lesson learned to never again put so much pressure on myself. What I am most proud about in this race is what happened after T2.
What happened after T2 is what matters the most.

BEYOND GRATEFUL FOR 2022
My year began by moving to Guatemala City for my husband’s job. Jimmie and I traveled with our 2 cats (Pipi and Raffi), my TT race bike, and a total 3 suitcases. Our lives in Guatemala were simple and we got to see a lot of Guatemala’s hidden gems.
